Join Ruth Boyd (Director of Riversong) for a deeply meaningful workshop celebrating a powerful connection to Boodja (Country). Ruth was inspired to write a song about our beautiful boodja (country), to celebrate its wonder and affirm our responsibility to care. She wrote Junnung Bullima (Spirit of the Land) in close collaboration with respected Dordenup Wardandi matriarch Elder Vivian Brockman Webb.

In this welcoming session, you have the opportunity to learn this beautiful new song. Sung in both Noongar and English, Junnung Bullima weaves a narrative of continuous connection to country: honoring the traditional custodians, and pledging a shared future committed to protecting and restoring our environment. 
 
The piece is designed to be easily learned by ear, making it completely accessible to all singing levels. Following a special Friday night taster performance by Riversong—featured alongside the grounding, rich sounds of Josh “Koomal” Whiteland on didgeridoo—this workshop focuses on community and vocal reciprocity. The ultimate goal is for this music to be freely reproduced, shared openly amongst choirs, and carried by voices all across Western Australia.

Practical Aesthetics: How to Enjoy Singing

If you’ve done any amount of singing you probably don’t need any convincing that it’s an enjoyable experience. But have you ever thought about exactly how we enjoy the songs we sing?
Are there different types of enjoyment? How might we enjoy things differently? How does this affect how we rehearse and how we perform?
 
I can’t promise I’ll be able to answer these exactly for you, but in this workshop we’ll look at a couple of different frameworks of classifying different Enjoyment Styles, how they intersect, and how they can change how you sound.

Suzanne has performed in a professional Jazz trio for over 7 years with Chocolatte, performing in Perth and the South-West.  She will be working with singers in stylistic techniques specific to Jazz Choral Singing. 
 
Suzanne will be working with accompanist Louise Bradford to deliver a fun, energetic and engaging session.
