Finding Vocal Freedom with Raelene Bruinsma

OLD DUNSBOROUGH HALL 9:00am - 10:30am

Finding Vocal Freedom through opening the throat (retraction)

Open-throated singing (false-vocal fold retraction for those with some physiological knowledge of the vocal structures) gives us a fuller and cleaner sound in whatever genre we sing, and protects from vocal damage. This workshop will have you exploring your voice through some fun and silly exercises, as well as a couple of songs, all in service of building your ability to “open your throat” when singing.

If you sometimes lose your voice or have a sore throat when you sing for a while, this is a workshop for you. If you notice your voice gets a squashed sound as you begin to run out of breath or at the top or bottom of your range, if you sometimes have trouble getting your voice out this workshop is also for you. If you just want to understand a little bit more about how the voice works, this is also a workshop for you.
Raelene Bruinsma has an honours degree in music therapy from Melbourne University, a PhD in performance from Curtin, and a certificate of proficiency in Estil Vocal Figures.
